    How to identify the mysterious extensions and determine the appropriate software to run

    This days we're facing technology advances which means thousands of new programs and software are made every day.
    And because of this we can face many many new extensions and we don't know them or even the program that can run them.

    There's many known extensions like media files extensions (.mp3, .mp4, .wmv, .3gp, .wav,...), when we see those extensions we automatically know which is the appropriate for them for example we can use VLC to run them, also there's (.doc, .docx, .ppt, .pptx, .xls, .xlsx,...) for those we can use Microsoft Office, there's (.PDF) we can run this with Adobe Acrobat.
    But There's some extensions that we don't know them such as  (.Shs, .say, .m2ts, .asf, .webm, .ogv, .001, .$db،.....).

    So what shall do with those:

    I'll give some solutions:
    The first one is to use the huge database of the files extensions of the know website FileInfo.com, the matter have a huge database of the files extensions.
    All what you have to is to Open the websites link : FileInfo.com.
    After that type your extension in the search box like this:

    The website will give you a brief description of the extension including the software's that you can run with them the files of the same extension for all the OS's (Windows, Linux, MAC):

    FileInfo.com also provides a program that do the same as the website :

    The program is compatible with : Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP with SP2 or later, and you can download it from here. Also you'll find a tutorial on how to work with.

    There's also another website that do the same as the website above : Openwith, But I think the best is the first website.

    But can I do if don't know the extension?

    If you don't know the extension you can use  TrID File Identifier, this is an online service that allows you to upload your desired file and it will give its extension after that use one of the websites above.

    I hope this was helpful, don't miss to share it with your friends if you like it.
    Ciao;
